Whare is the maori word for house.
Whakarara can be directly translated to mean parallel. – We wanted a name that related to the parallel universe theory.
So we named our studio Whare Whakarara because it is our own little house that parallels the storytelling world with unlimited potential.

We are striving to become a leading example in Animation and Indigenous storytelling right here in Aotearoa for Aoteroa. Our goal is to help reframe the customary practices within the creative sector by becoming an example of a studio with a healthy work life balance, a strong sense of self and to build a collective of indigenous storytellers.
